D2 TOOL STEEL- Flats, Squares
D2 is a high carbon, high chromium cold work tool steel. Recommended for use when greater toughness is required. It offers good wear resistance and high compressive strength.
D-2 Air-hardening Ground Flat Stock d2 Flat Bar has a very high resistance to abrasion and wear, because of its low sulphur composition and higher carbon and chromium content. D2 Flat Bar is a rugged tool steel for almost all types of uses when you want to achieve long life from shear blades, planer blades and industrial cutting tools.
Hardening D-2 Flat Bar Stock: In a control temperature oven, heat slowly to between 1875-1925°F (788-843°C), and should have a dark yellow color. Remove from heat and allow to air-cool.
Tempering D-2 Flat Bar Stock: Temper your D-2 flat bar stock by reheating to 500-950°F to relieve the stresses caused by hardening process, and to achieve the hardness needed. The lower the temperature the d2 flat bar is reheated to, the higher the level of hardness remains. Reheat for no less than 1 hour, and up to two hours.
